Caribe is a café and roastery owned by coffee aficionado and Barista Championship judge Zach Widener and his partner Naomi, café manager. Zach was raised in Jamaica and is now bringing a slice of the Caribbean to Wellington. With a clear vision he began importing beans from the Caribbean, Central and South America and Africa and setup the café in Brooklyn village. He soon received a Huhtamaki gold award for his signature blend – Caribe Gold.
Zach approached Foundry to evolve the café branding. As local Brooklyn dwellers and regular visitors to the café we understood the local market and could see how to create a brand that truly reflected their vision and story.
The new branding drew inspiration from historical maps of the Caribbean combined with an iconic island scene to reflect the origins of Zach and his coffee. We retained the bright yellow brand colour which was a huge part of the existing branding and café exterior, and paired this with black to enable the branding to be stamped onto packaging in one colour. The new branding was applied to Café interior and exterior signage through to coffee cups, loyalty cards, bean packaging, menus and even the Caribe booth at Caffeination which was a huge success. The café is humming 7 days a week and has attracted loyal customers from all walks of life. If you're up in Brooklyn make sure to pop into the cafe to try it for yourself. Best coffee in Welly – well we think so!
